AMD has begun offering a new processor in its mainstream dual-core lineup. The 5200+ joins the Athlon 64 X2 series as new flagship. There no clock speed increase, but AMD has integrated twice the cache of the 5000+ and re-enters the $400+ segment of CPUs.

AMD Introduces Athlon 64 X2 5200+
AMD has updated their CPU price list, including a brand new model, AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+. Unlike their previous top model, this puppy contains 1MB of L2 cache per core; 512KB more per core than the 5000+.
AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 Dual-Core Processor
Providing exceptional PC performance on games, digital media and intense applications, the AMD Athlon 64 FX-60 dual-core processor will allow enthusiasts to experience the next generation of multi-core supported games and applications using AMD's most powerful PC processor ever released. The core of the FX-60 is based on the "Toledo" core which everyone also knows from the Athlon 64 X2 4400+ and X2 4800+. The core is made at a 90nm fabrication procedure. It includes a DDR400 DDR memory controller built into the processor. The newer features like SSE3and XD-bit are also included.
AMD Quietly Releases Athlon 64 X2 5200+
AMD has quietly released a new Athlon 64 X2 5200+ processor for AM2 platforms. DailyTech previously reported AMD was expected to launch new Athlon 64 X2 5200+ processors. The Athlon 64 X2 5200+ is essentially identical to the previous socket 939 Athlon 64 FX-60, with the exception of socket and memory support. Clock frequency of the Athlon 64 X2 5200+ is also identical to the previous X2 5000+ at 2.6 GHz. The retail pricing will hover around $400US once released, but is it worth it? The 4600+ retails for around $280 for near the same speed, but less cache. Comparing this chip to what's available in the price range for Conroe makes things even more difficult.
